Senior Life
101
There is a
saying in today’s economy “Senior’s should work until they are 67 to 70 years
of age”. But, what should a senior do if jobs in their field will not hire
them? For example: I have been unemployed since November 2010, and I am still
looking for work on a daily basis. At 63 years of age I receive a minimal
social security benefits which is not really enough to pay the bills. Therefore
I am using any stipends I receive from school to help with necessary bills, and
sometimes have to take money from my savings to help out.
I have 15 years’
experience in the pharmaceutical industry, a bachelor’s degree in health care
administration, I am presently in school for my master’s degree in the same
discipline, and I am healthy and willing to work. I’ve worked as a clinical
trial assistant, a drug safety coordinator, and regulatory affairs coordinator.
Now, will someone tell me, what a person should do when they apply for jobs every
day and nothing comes of it?
I decided to
write this blog because I wanted to express myself and explain why I am not
working right now and how hard it is as a senior over the age of 60 years old
to get a job, in their familiar industry. Honestly, I want to work and
especially if the company allows work-life-balance. Work-life-balance would alleviate
travel time, gas for my car, lunch money, etc. But, I would take other job that pay less with
some traveling.
